You’ll Love This Dump Cake With Cream Cheese
A strawberry dump cake with cream cheese is an irresistible dessert that is fantastic for a crowd.
You know that I absolutely LOVE dump cakes. I mean, what’s not to love about a dessert recipe where you simply dump the ingredients in a dish and bake it without even stirring? It has maximum flavor with minimal effort.
In this case, there is one extra step (where you sweeten the cream cheese a bit), but I promise it’s worth it! And it only takes a minute.

This version, with strawberries and cream cheese is even more decadent than usual.
It’s a great dessert for parties since it can be served hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or enjoyed cold with freshly whipped cream.
And because you use strawberry pie filling, it can be made any time of year. I can’t wait for you to try this Strawberry Cream Cheese Dump Cake!
Ingredients
- strawberry pie filling
- cream cheese
- granulated sugar
- yellow cake mix
- melted butter
- 4-5 fresh strawberries, chopped
The melted butter is key to adding a ton of flavor to this strawberry dump cake. It works together with the moist strawberry pie filling and dry cake mix to create a golden brown crust topping!
I’ve found the yellow cake mix gives this dump cake a buttery vanilla flavor which pairs beautifully with the sweet and tangy strawberry cream cheese dessert layers. But you can also use white cake mix if it’s all you have.
I like to add a few fresh strawberries to the strawberry pie filling. It adds a little bit more texture and who doesn’t love fresh strawberries! But you can skip that part if they aren’t in season.

How to Make Strawberry Cheesecake Dump Cake
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
This dump cake with cream cheese does have one extra step that most dump cakes don’t have.
Step 1
Add the cream cheese and sugar to a medium bowl, and beat with a hand mixer for 2 minutes or until creamy.
Step 2
Dump the strawberry pie filling into the baking dish and spread it into an even layer. Add the chopped fresh strawberries if using.
Step 3
Add spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture all over the strawberry pie filling. No need to mix it in, this doesn’t have to be perfect.
Step 4
Sprinkle the dry cake mix on top of the strawberries.
Step 5
Melt the butter in a small bowl and pour it over the cake mix layer.
NOTE: If you are worried about some of the dry cake mix not mixing with the butter all the way you can take a spatula and try to press the cake mix into the melted butter. But DO NOT STIR.
Step 5
Bake the dump cake for 55-60 minutes, until golden and bubbly. Remove the strawberry cheesecake dump cake from the oven and let it cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
Serving a fruit dump cake when it’s too warm can be a runny mess! I like to let them cool and set up a little bit before scooping into the pan.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most dump cakes, including this strawberry dump cake with cream cheese, don’t include raw ingredients that need to be cooked through for food safety reasons. As such, it’s more about “heating” the dump cake than it is “cooking” it.
It takes about 20 minutes in the microwave, an hour in the oven, and up to 2 hours in the slow cooker.
Absolutely! I’ve poured melted butter over the cake mix in this recipe while in some of my other dump cake recipes I add slices of butter. Either method is fine, but it’s still going to be near impossible to not end up with a little dry mix left after baking this dump cake. It’s completely normal and won’t ruin the dessert.
When your dump cake is ready, if you don’t like that there are some dry cake mix areas, just use a little water bottle and spritz the dry areas very lightly with water. It will moisten the cake mix just enough and won’t change the flavor at all.
Store this strawberry cheesecake dump cake, covered with plastic wrap or in an airtight container, in the fridge for up to a few days. You can serve made ahead or leftover dump cake chilled, at room temperature, or heated in the oven or microwave.
I’ve never had the need to freeze a dump cake because they never last in my house, but you could. Wrap it with aluminum foil and cling wrap to prevent freezer burn and thaw in the fridge before serving again.
