Letโ€™s make this easy passion fruit sangria recipe.

Why youโ€™ll love this Sangria recipe

Passion Fruit Sangria is unique and full of fruity flavor. The combination of passion fruit juice, spiced rum, and sauvignon blanc creates a wine cocktail that is tangy and tropical.

This sangria recipe with rum is super easy, even for beginning cocktail makers. Like, pour things into a pitcher and let them sit while you watch Vanderpump Rules.

The ingredients arenโ€™t hard to find and this can be whipped up in minutes. The way the tart white wine (using a sauv blanc from New Zealand is a must) cuts through the sweetness of this rum cocktail is crave-able.

Since it can be made ahead (it chills in the fridge to get all flavorful and stuff) itโ€™s perfect for serving at any party, especially during warm summer months. You can make several batches and grab them as needed.

Ingredients

I like to use sauvignon blanc in this recipe because not only is it my favorite wine I also love how the acidity and brightness work with the other drink ingredients.

Passion fruit juice is the star of the show and adds a distinctly tropical flavor to this sangria. I can find it at my local store or World Market.

Orange juice adds a little sweetness and gentle citrus. I prefer fresh-squeezed orange juice over store-bought but itโ€™s totally up to you.

Spiced rum is my favorite rum because of the cinnamon, nutmeg and other spice flavors. It makes a cocktail taste like there are 55 ingredients used when itโ€™s really only 1.

It also makes a drink instantly feel tropical. You could use dark or light rum if that is all you have but it will have a different flavor profile.

The fresh fruit you add to this sangria gives even more flavor, especially as it sits and gets all married together, and gives the drink visual appeal and that classic sangria look. I like to use fresh pineapple but you can use canned if that is all you have.

Maraschino cherries, due to their bright color, add a visual punch to the look of the pitcher but also a touch of sweetness. For a more muted color, you can use fresh, pitted cherries or even Luxardo cherries (although those are pricey).

To serve, pour the chilled spiced rum sangria into glasses.

Top each glass with a few slices of fruit and a cherry.

Tips

  • Always taste the sangria before serving it in the glasses to ensure it is balanced. If it needs more sweetness, you can add some simple syrup.
  • Use chilled wine to avoid diluting the cocktail with ice.
  • If you donโ€™t want to use rum, you can use brandy which is a traditional sangria ingredient (although I donโ€™t think you should go buy a bottle of it just to make this recipe).
  • Use frozen fruit instead of fresh for a fun and colorful cocktail and to help keep the temperature cool without using ice.
  • If you want to try to stretch the batch and get more servings, you can partially fill the glass with sangria and then top with club soda.

Ways to Make the Drink Your Own

Use a different type of wine, such as rosรฉ or pinot grigio instead of the sauvignon blanc.

Fresh mint in the pitcher will give this passion fruit sangria a refreshing twist.

Add even more tropical flavor with coconut rum or even pineapple rum.

Grenadine syrup will add even more sweetness and make the drink look like a gorgeous sunrise.

Change up the type of fruit you include. Strawberries and kiwi would both be tasty with passion fruit juice.

Orange liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec) is another way to add flavor.
