This Blueberry Lemonade recipe is a tasty twist on a classic warm-weather drink!
I love to make flavored lemonade when the weather starts to heat up. While I love this Lavender Lemonade recipe, I knew my kids would love something with a yummy berry flavor.
Flavored simple syrups are a great way to flavor cocktails, so I decided to use my Blueberry Simple Syrup to make a tasty drink for the whole family!
Why This Recipe Works
With the combination of fresh blueberries (to make the simple syrup) and fresh lemon juice this drink just screams summer to me! But you don’t have to wait for summer to roll around to enjoy this homemade recipe.
When you work with blueberries, you get a subtle berry flavor. I hope I’m not offending anyone when I say that blueberries have a pretty generic taste. Unlike raspberries and strawberries, blueberries give berry-ish vibes.

Directions
Step 1: Make ahead
You will need to allow yourself time to make the blueberry simple syrup and allow it to cool completely before making this drink recipe. You can do this step ahead of time, even up to a few days.
Step 2: Making the recipe
Add water to the pitcher, then add the fresh lemon juice.
*Hint: This is my favorite citrus squeezer. It gets all the juice out of your fruit with ease and makes the process go faster. See more of my favorite bar tools here.
Step 3
Measure out the blueberry syrup and add it to the pitcher.
Step 4
Stir it all together.
Step 5
Give the lemonade mixture a quick taste and adjust flavors by adding more lemon or syrup as needed.
To Serve
When you’re ready to serve your blueberry lemonade, garnish the glasses with fresh blueberries and lemon slices and serve the drink over ice.
If you want to add more blueberry flavor without adding more sweetness, add some fresh blueberries to your glass and muddle before adding ice and lemonade.
Variations
- Spicy – I know not everyone loves spicy drinks but I really do! You can add a kick by muddling in some fresh jalapeno or serrano peppers as I do in my Serrano Margarita.
- Herbs – Berries and fresh herbs go really well together! You can infuse the lemonade with some fresh basil or rosemary or even use a basil simple syrup along with freshly muddled berries. I think a thyme one would also be delicious.
- Adult Friendly – You can make this drink into a cocktail by adding a little vodka or gin. YUM!
Frequently Asked Questions
You’ll need a ton of lemons to make this lemonade – but trust me when I say it’s worth it to use fresh lemons when making lemonade from scratch. Fresh juice just doesn’t compare to the store-bought stuff! It’s already sweetened so if you add flavored simple syrup, it will get even sweeter!
If you want to use store-bought to save time or when making a really large batch, I would make sure to add in some fresh lemon juice as well.
Homemade blueberry lemonade is tart from the fresh lemons with a subtle hint of berry and sweetness from the simple syrup. It’s a refreshing drink to make for your family and is great to serve at parties.
You can store your homemade lemonade in the refrigerator (covered) for up to 8 days. If you muddle any fresh berries into the batch, it will keep for about 4 days. Fresh fruit starts to break down and won’t be “fresh” for long.
