The Perfect Fall Moscow Mule
If you have followed this blog for the last few years then you already know that I’m a big fan of the Moscow Mule.
It’s one of those cocktails that use a basic formula and flavors and, with just minor changes, you can create something totally new.
This Pumpkin Mule is a great idea to serve at Halloween and Thanksgiving/ Friendsgiving because it’s so easy. And because of the seasonal flavors, it’s one of my favorite Moscow Mule variations for this time of year.
This fall Moscow Mule recipe starts like all the best Moscow Mules, with fresh lime and ginger beer.

The pumpkin spiced rum is what makes it perfectly fall-ified. With its warm spices (like cinnamon and nutmeg), it’s easy to drink and gives it the perfect fall cocktail idea with seasonal-inspired flavor.
This rum cocktail recipe doesn’t require a shaker and it’s super easy to make several drinks at once. Plus it doesn’t require you to open a can of pumpkin to use just a small amount.
Ingredient Notes
Ginger beer and fresh lime juice give it that kick of familiar flavor that you love in a Mule cocktail.
Captain Morgan Jack O’Blast Pumpkin Rum, is the key to this quick and easy recipe. It has notes of warm, seasonal spices and a hint of pumpkin flavor that makes this so tasty.
You can use it in any recipe that calls for spiced rum, so while I don’t love to buy too many bottles of flavored liquor for my bar cart, this one will get put to good use.
Plus, how cute is the bottle? This sweet, Caribbean rum with spices and pumpkin flavor works perfectly in this Moscow Mule for fall recipe and can also be used for shots.
This Pumpkin Rum is available seasonally so keep your eyes peeled. This Mashed.com article even has several ideas for other cocktails to make with it.
If you don’t want to buy this bottle, you could use regular spiced rum and add 1 tablespoon of canned pumpkin, make my Pumpkin Spice Moscow Mule which has canned pumpkin instead or find pumpkin-flavored drink syrup to add (this will also add sweetness).
How to Make a Pumpkin Moscow Mule
Add crushed ice to your glasses.
Add the ginger beer. Squeeze in fresh lime.
Then use a jigger to top with the Jack-O Blast. What a name.
Give it a quick stir with your favorite bar spoon and your cocktail is done.
Garnish with lime. And drink up.
The Pumpkin Mule is really the best cocktail idea for fall. It would go perfectly with any Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving menu.
And if you need a little something to get you through trick or treating, this might be your jam.
It bears mentioning that hangovers and parenting really are the worst. These supplements are my go-to for not feeling like trash after a few too many rum Pumpkin Mule cocktails.
Tips
- Making these for a crowd? This is my favorite citrus squeezer. It makes batching fresh lime juice easy (and in turn makes making the drinks faster!)
- You can make these ahead of time by mixing the fresh lime juice and pumpkin rum together. For best results, you should add the ginger beer just before serving.
- Add fresh herbs as a garnish! A small bunch of Poultry Herbs is the perfect finishing touch for this drink.
- These drinks would be extra cute served in a pumpkin copper mug!
Frequently Asked Questions
In a pinch, you could use ginger ale in place of ginger beer in any Mule recipe. However, ginger ale is much sweeter and lacks the zing of ginger flavor. You can manage that difference by muddling in some fresh ginger or even adding a bit of ground ginger and mixing well.
No. As you can see from my photos, you can always serve a cocktail in another type of glass. I do love a copper mug, however, because they do help to keep the cocktail well chilled and provide good vibes to the overall drinking experience.
There are several brands of ginger beer on the market. I love Reed’s. It’s not overly sweet and has the perfect bite from ginger. All of them are quite tasty. Trader Joe’s has a pumpkin-flavored ginger beer around the holidays but I would skip that unless you are following their Mule recipe.
