This fall makeup tutorial is perfect for beginners and easily goes from day to night with a bold lipstick. Switch up your everyday look with these easy tips.
A Simple Mom Makeup Look
My standard makeup look can be described in one word. Boring.
As a work-at-home mom, I don’t tend to put in a ton of effort to my daily makeup routine. Mom life is too hectic sometimes right?
That doesn’t mean I don’t want to look nice, it just means that: a) I hate to get ready in the morning, b) hardly anyone sees me, and c) I’m not that great at applying makeup.
Since it’s fall, we’ve been stuck at home, and holiday season is right around the corner, I decided to reach out to my friend, Yara, to help me come up with an everyday fall makeup look that busy moms can easily recreate at home.
(Looking for more mom makeup looks? Check out the makeup Yara did for a spring makeup look).
I struggle with making it look like I’m wearing makeup even when I feel like I put a lot on. And while this feels like a lot of makeup, it still looks natural and I LOVE that you can tell I’m wearing it.
Working with her on this tutorial taught me to go a little bold with colors, especially on my cheeks and lips!
Easy to follow Fall Makeup Tutorial
What are the must-have items for a fall look? You don’t need much.
With just a few items, that you probably already have in your makeup bag, you can recreate the fall trends that were all over the runways recently.
A good eyeshadow palette will get you through the entire year. But for fall, the big trend was a light eye (with a touch of shimmer) paired with a bold lip.
So while a bold lip might not work for daytime, it’s all you need to add if you can sneak away for a date night!
Easy Everyday Fall Makeup Look for Busy Moms
I love chatting about makeup tips with my girlfriends and it’s even more awesome when they are a makeup artist like Yara. As a busy mom herself, she knows that we don’t have time for complicated applications.
Here’s how to get my fall makeup look. Just follow this easy makeup tutorial.
1. Start With Tinted Moisturizer
To start off our simple fall makeup look, she used a tinted moisturizer (I love a double-duty product!) and concealer that she dotted along my dark circles and then blended in with small taps of her finger.
Yara previously taught me how to cover my dark circles with concealer but I think my darkness has leveled up and I need even more coverage. Thanks, old age.
2. Add An Eyeshadow Base
Always add eyeshadow base (I use a dab of concealer) in order to maintain a true and vibrant color. I have to be honest, I usually skip that step to save time. But I absolutely do it when I do my makeup for an event!
Next, with a light peach-toned shadow, buff it into the crease to create a soft contour. Add a beautiful shimmer to the lid making the center of your eye the focus.
Deciding what color to add is easy. Stick with muted, natural tones. For the purpose of this fall makeup tutorial, I asked her to do a color that really closely matched my skin tone.
She used this eyeshadow palette.
3. Apply Darker Eyeliner and Mascara
To enhance your lashes, add a darker eyeliner in between and on top of the lashes. This will give the illusion of fuller and longer lashes. This is called tightlining.
It’s pretty cool.
It takes some time to learn how to do it well, but it’s something I am starting to do more and more. I have small lids and think this style of lining my eyes really makes them feel bigger.
And with my blond lashes, I need all the help I can get!
What I found works really well for me is dabbing the brush at the lashline, kind of like you are stamping. It keeps you from getting a wobbly hand and making a line that is all over the place.
Finish your eyes with your favorite mascara.
4. Highlight Your Eyebrows
DON’T FORGET ABOUT YOUR EYEBROWS! While this was something that I only used to do if I was going out for a night on the town, now I do it every day. It takes just a minute and it really makes you look put together.
With my light hair color, my eyebrows can look almost invisible. Now if I had to choose between filling in my eyebrows or wearing eyeshadow, I’d fill in my brows.
She used this Brow Powder Duo and this brush.
5. Put Light Bronzer on Your Cheeks
On your cheeks, use a light bronzer to define and softly contour your face. In the shape of a 3 starting with your hairline, sweep in a circular motion to your cheeks and back down towards your jawline.
Add a peach whispered tone (here’s a similar bronzer to what she used which is no longer available) to the apples of your cheeks where you naturally get color.
6. Apply Highlighter
Finish with a few strokes of your favorite highlighter emphasizing the top of your cheekbones, above your brow, down the rim of your nose, and lastly your Cupid’s bow.
This will give your skin a luminous glow and illuminate all the beautiful high points of your face.
7. Finish with a Bold Lip Color
Last but not least, a sexy fall lip…choose a warmer red that best suits your skin tone. Not all reds are the same but a red lip is a must for this season and it will become a staple in your makeup wardrobe.
If you don’t feel like you can rock a bold lip on the schoolyard, just swap it out for a less bold gloss. It’s totally fine to save the sexy lips for date night.
I’ll most likely only wear the lipstick if I have a lunch date with a friend. Otherwise, I like to use a tinted lip balm.
Fall Trends Makeup Look
While usually, I would think this sounds like a lot of work, the trick is finding a makeup palette that has all these products altogether.
Instead of searching around in your makeup bag for each of these things and their brush, a contouring palette will have it all right there for you. That means you might even be able to eat breakfast before rushing the kids out the door.
These fall makeup colors, the simple peachy eye and bold lipstick, are totally on-trend. You may feel like a beginner and like you don’t know how to apply makeup well but this is super easy to recreate!
While I prefer to have Yara do my makeup, this is a look I can totally do myself.
Now you have an everyday fall makeup look to wear out to coffee with your best pals. I promise you, I’m a total makeup novice and I can do this!
And the bold lip can take you right into date night! I’m super grateful that Yara shared it with me. Look out world, me and my red lips are coming for you!
Easily Whiten Your Smile
With all the extra coffee that I drink in the chilly fall weather, I know I need to really pay attention to my teeth.
The Colgate® Optic White® Toothbrush + Whitening Pen starts working the first day you use it and gets teeth five shades whiter in just three weeks.
It’s totally convenient (because I’m totally not doing something if it’s too much work!) and there is no waiting and no rinsing! Pretty cool.
I’m a big fan. And I can be confident with my fall bold lip thanks to Colgate® Optic White®.
