Aside from some simple muddling, a Tequila Mojito is a super easy cocktail to make. You don’t even need a cocktail shaker.
Ingredients
- tequila
- club soda
- fresh mint
- lime
- simple syrup
I felt really bad using Patron in this mixed drink recipe. I mean, it’s so tasty on its own. But it’s what I had on hand and I knew the drink would be extra delicious.
You can use any brand of tequila that you have. I never suggest you use anything super high-end (or Patron) when you are using it in a mixed drink but it shouldn’t taste like straight gasoline either.
I like to use silver or Blanco tequila for this recipe. I’m really into Cazadores Tequila right now – you can read my review.
There are a bunch of ways to make a mojito but this recipe is pretty classic. Some call for sugar, while I am using simple syrup to keep things easy and to make sure all there isn’t any sugar graininess. (Or sometimes I use this cheater simple syrup if I’m pressed for time).
You can use another type of sweetener, like agave syrup if you like, as that always works really well with tequila.
How to make a mojito with tequila
A Tequila Mojito is made the same way as a traditional Mojito except you swap the liquor.
These are my absolute favorite glasses – they’re so cute and perfect for this
Step 1
To a tall glass add the simple syrup, fresh mint leaves and quartered fresh limes.
Step 2
Muddle with a wooden muddler to release the juices of the limes and bruise the mint leaves.
(I like to use a wooden muddler but you can use a stainless steel one with a rubber foot if that’s what you have).
Step 3
Add ice to the glass.
Step 4
Top with silver tequila, then club soda.
I can almost smell that mint and lime through the screen! SO GOOD! A Tequila Mojito has the classic flavor combination with tequila undertones. And is so refreshing.
Tips and tricks
- Don’t have a muddler? Use the rounded end of an ice cream scooper! It works really well.
- For a slightly different flavor, you can use a different type of tequila like a reposado or anejo.
- To make a larger batch of this cocktail you may want to make a mint simple syrup and pre-squeeze lime juice instead of muddling.
- If you’re worried about your Tequila Mojito being too sweet, you can cut down on the amount of simple syrup. Or try using an ounce of Triple Sec instead.

Tequila Mojito
Ingredients
- 2 oz tequila silver or blanco
- 1 lime (approx. 3/4 ounce) quartered
- 3/4 oz simple syrup if you like that sort of thing
- 1 oz Club Soda
- 6-8 fresh mint leaves
- Lime wedge for garnish
Instructions
- In a tall glass, muddle mint leaves, 3 lime pieces and simple syrup.
- Add a cup of ice, tequila and top with club soda.
- Stir gently.
- Garnish your Tequila Mojito with lime wedge.
