It is really up to you (and the time of year!) if you want to make a hot mug of delicious almond amaretto coffee or an iced drink (I think they would be great for a brunch party!).
- fresh coffee
- amaretto
- whipped cream (optional, store-bought or from scratch)
- ice (optional)
- ground cinnamon and sugar (optional)
I really enjoy strong coffee but if you don’t, just make sure the flavor of the coffee that would go well with the almond notes of the amaretto. My go-to is Lavazza.
I never like to have bottles on my home bar that are just sitting around. And while you may not know of many things to make with a bottle of amaretto, this is a great start. You can use any brand of almond liqueur, but Disaranno is a popular brand.
Whipped cream adds the perfect luxury finish this drink. You can make it yourself with a little heavy whipping cream. If you find black coffee to be a little bitter, the cream will help to smooth it out as it melts. But you can also add a dash of coffee creamer if you need it.
A dusting of ground cinnamon on top of the whipped cream would be a delicious addition to both!
Obviously, if you are making the cold version you’ll need ice especially if you are chilling hot coffee and not starting with a cold brew.

How To Make Hot Amaretto Coffee
To make a hot amaretto coffee drink, brew a hot cup of coffee any way you prefer. (A Keurig makes this super simple, but I like to use my trusty coffee maker – which is especially good for making these for a crowd).
Add 1 oz of amaretto almond liqueur and stir.
Top with whip cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon, if desired.
The cinnamon sugar rim is optional but I think it adds a nice finishing touch.
How To Make Iced Amaretto Coffee
Step 1
Pour the amaretto over ice in a short glass.
Step 2
Top with cooled coffee or cold brew and stir gently.
Sprinkle with a little ground cinnamon, if desired.
Whichever way you like to serve it, this ratio makes the best amaretto coffee! I can’t wait for you to try it!! It’s one of my favorite drinks on vacation.
Variations
- Vanilla coffee – add a little vanilla extract to the coffee to add an extra flavor note. Or, if you want to make it sweeter, use vanilla or vanilla cinnamon simple syrup.
- Make it an Irish Coffee – simply switch the amaretto out for whiskey or bourbon instead! Bourbon coffee is a delicious alternative to amaretto!
- Add a cinnamon sugar rim – this is how I rim my drinks with cinnamon sugar for the holidays!
- Don’t have Amaretto? Use a splash of almond extract instead.
- Don’t like coffee? You can add amaretto to hot chocolate instead.
- Dairy-free – You can make Amaretto Coffee dairy free by using dairy alternatives like almond milk whipped cream
- Add more flavor – While I love the almond taste, you can add more flavor by using things like hazelnut syrup.
