But don’t let the simplicity of this party idea fool you – it can also be a great idea for a larger gathering! Simply scale up the recipe and card game (or set up stations with a variety of games), and invite more friends to join in the fun.
You don’t have to worry about complicated decorations or fancy cocktails. Just make the margarita a signature drink (it’s one of my favorite tequila cocktails of ALL time) and focus on spending time with your friends while playing a simple card game.
Card Games to Play with Friends
There are lots of card games that you can play with friends that will be entertaining and enjoyable for all. You can find all the rules for your favorite games on the Bicycle Playing Cards website.
Here are a few card games to play at your next card party. All of these games can be played with 2 or more people. And, of course, you can make this into a poker night party if you prefer.
Rummy
One easy card game that’s great for two people is Rummy. Form sets and runs of cards to get rid of all your cards before your opponent.
Players take turns drawing and discarding cards until someone goes out or the draw pile runs out. With simple rules and endless possibilities for strategy, Rummy is a classic game that’s perfect for a cozy night in with a friend.
3/13
This simple card game is perfect for a casual get-together with friends. To play, each player is dealt three cards face down and four cards face up. The goal is to have the lowest score possible at the end of each round.
Each card has a point value (numbered cards are worth their face value, face cards are worth 10 points, and aces are worth 1 point). On each turn, players can choose to exchange one of their face-up cards with a face-down card, or take the top card from the draw pile.
At the end of each round, players add up the point values of their cards and the player with the lowest score wins. It’s a fast-paced and easy game that’s perfect for a Margs and Cards party.
Spoons
This fast-paced game is best for larger groups. To play, you’ll need a set of spoons (one less than the number of players). The goal is to be the first player to collect four of a kind. Players take turns passing cards to their neighbor, trying to collect a set of four.
When a player has four of a kind, they grab a spoon from the center of the table. The other players must also grab a spoon, and the player left without a spoon is out. The game continues until one player remains.
Spades
If you’re looking for a more traditional card game, spades is a good option. It’s a trick-taking game that’s usually played with four players, and the goal is to win as many tricks as possible.
The game involves bidding, trump suits, and trying to outsmart your opponents. It’s a bit more complicated than some of the other games on this list, but it’s a classic for a reason.
Poker
Finally, if you want to up the stakes a bit, why not host a poker night? You can keep it casual with small bets or go all out with a tournament-style game.
Poker involves betting, bluffing, and trying to make the best hand possible. It’s a fun and exciting game that’s perfect for a Margs and Cards party.

Margaritas are a delicious and refreshing cocktail to share with friends. With a variety of flavors, they’re perfect for any occasion, including a night of playing cards with friends.

A big pitcher of margaritas ensures that you will have several cocktails and not have to mix them individually all night.

- Rim your glasses with salt or Tajin.

Snacks
Depending on how many people you’re hosting and what time of day, will determine how much and what type of food you should serve.
You can simply serve snacks like lime-flavored popcorn and spiced tortilla chips. They are easy to make and pair well with margaritas! Of course, you should serve chips and guacamole. Because, yum. And you can use store-bought which is usually pretty darn good.
If you want to serve something a little more hearty, you can make a big batch of shredded chicken tacos, or walking tacos (hello tacos in a bag!) which are both great for a party.
Tips
- Keep it simple – If you don’t feel like cooking have everyone bring a dish or order in from your favorite local restaurant.
- Make it BYOM – Bring your own margaritas? Yes! Have everyone whip up their own favorite marg recipe and have a tasting.
- Don’t stress – You can skip elaborate decorations if you prefer. Or if that’s something you like to do, you can choose just a few items to give your space some pizzaz.
This Margs and Cards party idea should be easy and fun. So keep things simple, invite over a few friends, and get those yummy margaritas flowing.
