Filling Banana Oat Smoothie
How yummy does this Banana Oat Smoothie look? And it’s a perfect way to start the day as we head back to school.
I probably shouldn’t admit this, but I totally just had to look up how to spell banana.
All I could hear while writing it was Gwen’s voice spelling it but I heard far too many n’s. Dang.
How am I going to be able to help my kids with their homework if I can’t even spell banana?
I eat about 3 bananas a year, on average. They are not my favorite fruit by any means. But something about this recipe made me want to try it.
And I’ve been trying to get off the ‘Tarts. Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop-Tarts have always been my weakness and I attribute many a cellulite dimple to them.
This smoothie recipe with banana and oats is delicious and super satisfying. It’s also a little bit more healthy than the other way I like my bananas: Caramel Banana Bites.
Can I put raw oats in a smoothie
If you haven’t ever put raw oats in your smoothie, you’re missing out!
Smoothies can be made all different ways. Raw oats can definitely be put in a smoothie!
Is it good to put oatmeal in a smoothie
I think it’s good to put oatmeal in a smoothie. Oats are rich in antioxidants and fiber. Plus they are a great way to make a smoothie more filling!
Often I make a smoothie and find that I am hungry again right away. But when I add oats, it keeps me full, longer.
And sometimes I make Bruleed Oatmeal, but I feel like this smoothie is a better breakfast option in the long run…
How to make a Banana Oatmeal Smoothie
There is little to no prep to make this banana and oat smoothie. And as you get comfortable with your measurements you can put it together even more quickly.
As I am a terrible judge of well, most guesstimations, I will continue to use a measuring cup to make sure I am not adding unnecessary calories.

Ingredients
- 1 bananananananana
- oatmeal (uncooked – not quick cooking)
- plain nonfat yogurt
- vanilla soymilk, or other milk alternative
- honey, optional
- cinnamon
I used a fresh banana, but you can also use one that has been frozen into slices to make this smoothie a little more frosty.
I used Greek yogurt because I like the amount of protein it has. But if you are trying to make this non-dairy, just skip it and add some protein powder instead.
If you make that swap, you may need to add a little more milk or some water for a better consistency.
Use any milk or milk alternative that you like. Lately I’ve been using almond milk so that is typically what I put in but soy milk is how I first made this.
I don’t enjoy sweet drinks so I usually skip the honey. But if you need to sweeten this up (for yourself or the kids) use honey. It’s a natural sweetener.
And the cinnamon is the perfect finishing touch. But you can leave it off if you prefer (although it also has some health benefits) or change it up!
Directions
The banana does not really need to be chopped up, but I like to break it up into at least a few chunks so that it will blend well.
Add your banana, raw oats, yogurt, milk, honey and cinnamon to the blender and get to whirring.
I usually use my Ninja Blender because it is super powerful and breaks up the oats really well. But I’ve also made this in my Magic Bullet and it did the job.
Dress up your smoothie
I love that smoothies can be so free form. I like to throw in some chia seeds, hemp seeds and even cocoa nibs once in a while.
Sometimes I’ll put them in before I mix everything. Sometimes I like to just add it to the top.
I’ve added unsweetened cocoa powder to this banana smoothie recipe. Delicious!
I’ve swapped the soymilk for orange juice and added a dash of vanilla – hello creamsicle.
I’ve also added strawberries to change-up the flavor and added other spices, like nutmeg, for a match made in heaven.
If you came over from Pinterest you may have seen this image! This was from the original post. I thought I’d leave it in here for old time’s sake.
Are you for or against oats in your smoothie?
Depending on how long you blend it, your oatmeal will either be pretty darn smooth or a little bit chewier.
I find that this smoothie keeps me full and I feel good about what I am putting in my body.
Then I only have the rest of the day to worry about screwing up my diet. Believe me. I can be the world’s worst eater. We’re talking cupcakes for breakfast, lunch, and snack with a grilled cheese dinner.
Now THAT’S bananas.
Have bananas that are on the verge of going bad?? You should definitely try Baked Bananas with Brown Sugar.
