Best Coffee in Palm Springs
The desert is my favorite place for a quick weekend getaway! And one of the things I always need to start my day is a good cup of coffee.
Whether you’re looking for trendy coffeehouses or independent roasters, Palm Springs (and the greater Palm Springs area) has the perfect coffee shop for you.
Here’s where to find the best coffee in Palm Springs!
Quick coffee in the desert
In case you aren’t familiar with the area, Palm Springs is located in Southern California and is a desert resort area in Riverside County. While most people refer to the area at large as Palm Springs, there are actually several cities spread along Highway 111 which make up the Coachella Valley.
The coffee shops I’m going to share with you are not all in Palm Springs proper so be sure to map them out before you go.
What I like to do when I plan my trip is to figure out where my hotel is and then plan my meals based on that. While there are a ton of good options downtown, the opposite end of the valley has great options too!
And, while a little spread out, it’s not out of the question to stay in one end of town and visit a restaurant in the other end. If you drive up Highway 111, it takes about 30 minutes to get from one end to the other.
The coffee places that I am sharing are more for quick cups. While there are full on restaurants that have coffee in Palm Springs, the spots on this list are more for swinging through rather than sitting and lounging.
Ernest Coffee
1101 N Palm Canyon Dr, Palm Springs, CA 92262
Ernest Coffee serves Stumptown Coffee (one of my faves and therefore some of the best coffee in Palm Springs) and has a friendly but cool vibe.
It’s nicely designed and the perfect place to grab a coffee drink if you are heading in to or out of Palm Springs due to its location on Palm Canyon/Hwy 111.
The back half of this coffee shop is actually a tiki bar that is a really fun place to grab a drink later in the night.
I had one of the best iced mochas I’ve ever had from here. And their iced tea is also really delish.
Need something stronger? They also serve beer and wine at happy hour!
Koffi
Multiple locations in the Coachella Valley
Koffi is a local fave for coffee in Palm Springs and has 4 locations in the valley. This spot is classic, has great coffee, and a nice atmosphere.
They roast their own coffee at their Rancho Mirage location and also serve simple egg sandwiches and freshly baked muffins.
My favorite location is the one right across the street from The Ace Hotel. It has a decent-sized parking lot or you can simply walk over from the hotel. This location also has a decent-sized patio which is great for early mornings before the day gets to be too hot.
IW Coffee
74-995 CA-111, Indian Wells, CA 92210
I haven’t been to IW Coffee yet but I hear this is a great little spot out in Indian Wells.
They serve Joshua Tree Coffee Company coffee and make a Honey Cinnamon Latte that is very popular.
With stylish decor and delicious coffee, this spot is a great place to enjoy a specialty coffee drink or fresh-baked treat
Rocco’s Electric at The Saguaro
1800 E. Palm Canyon Dr., Palm Springs, CA 92264
While not an actual coffee shop, Rocco’s Electric at The Saguaro hotel has great coffee! They are open for brunch during certain hours, but you can get coffee here earlier.
I had a delicious Rosemary Latte here and the guy who made it was really knowledgeable. This looks more like a bar than a coffee bar but my cup was super tasty and I would definitely stop here again next time I’m in Palm Springs!
Starbucks Reserve
101 S Palm Canyon Dr, Palm Springs, CA 92262
Everyone knows what Starbucks is but have you ever heard of a Starbucks Reserve?? Located next to The Rowan in downtown Palm Springs, this coffee shop serves all your usual favorites, but serve specialty brews too.
With lounge areas, designed to keep people hanging out longer, and a bar where you can order and watch your specialty drink being made in front of you, this spot is next level.
There’s also a wrap-around patio which makes this not only some of the best coffee in Palm Springs but also perfect for people watching. With umbrellas and misters, this coffee shop is easy to access when staying downtown.
Any boutique hotel restaurant
Various locations
With lots of visitors coming in from Los Angeles and the surrounding areas, the boutique hotels cater to the demand for great coffee.
Just about any boutique hotel in Palm Springs serve high end, expertly roasted coffee and creates carefully constructed drinks. A simple cup of coffee at King’s Highway at The Ace hotel is absolutely delicious!
4 Paws Coffee Co.
2500 N Palm Canyon Dr Suite A5, Palm Springs, CA 92262
4 Paws Coffee Co. is the best coffee in Palm Springs to bring your furry friend. With a small menu of delicious food and unique coffee drinks, this is a place to check out if you can’t stand to be away from your canine companion, even while you order your coffee.
Customs Coffee – CLOSED
Customs Coffee was located in the Arrive Hotel. Although small, it had a cool design and tasty drinks.
Cartel Coffee Lab
Cartel Coffee Lab took over the Customs Coffee space but I haven’t had a chance to taste anything yet. The space is small but I am sure the design is just as cool as it used to be.
Cartel is a small chain with their locations mostly in Arizona and a few of the Arrive hotel locations. If you’re staying at the Colony Palms Hotel or The Riviera, this is the closest coffee shop.
Top tips
- When planning a trip to Palm Springs, you should be aware of the “seasons.” During the low season (summer) some restaurants close for a few months since business slows way down.
- Always check each place before heading over to ensure that they are, in fact, open.
- Some restaurants don’t close for months on end but modify their hours to suit the slower business.
It can be a bummer when your fave spot is not an option but you can still find great coffee in Palm Springs. For the most part, the coffee shops should be open, at least in the morning.
