Mojito DIY Bath Salts with Essential Oils
You may not be able to sip on a cocktail every night, but you can certainly make bath time smell like it! Make some mojito-inspired DIY Bath Salts with lime and peppermint oil. Make bath time feel a little more like happy hour!
There are a few scents that I just can’t get enough of. Fresh lime and mint are so fresh and so clean. Maybe that’s why I love mojitos so much. I decided to make some Mojito DIY bath salts so that I could bring those same scents into the bathtub.
You know I love cocktail-inspired cupcakes. They’re just fun. And these cocktail-inspired bath salts will make bath time feel more like happy hour.
The idea of bath time is so luxurious. In an ideal world, I’d plan a relaxing bath every night. It would be warm and cozy. I’d have candles burning and maybe sip on a glass of wine while I soaked my worries away.
But that is basically a fantasy. My real-life bathtub is tiny and barely covers my body. Plus the chaos of my two boys arguing right outside the door creates a less than chill environment.
The only thing that makes a bath enjoyable for me is if it smells amazing. So I combined the smells from my favorite mojito cocktail, lime and mint, with a simple DIY bath salts recipe. It makes a large batch so I can use it over and over.
But, I get it. Some people think baths are super grody. That’s ok. You can still make these salts. They make a great gift idea to share with others who love aromatherapy. Maybe they like grody baths.
Why use bath salts
Bath salts can also be really good for your skin.
Epsom salt is a natural exfoliant and has anti-inflammatory properties which is always a plus. They can be used to treat sore muscles and dry skin so using them in a bath is a great idea.
Since I’m not a doctor, scientist or expert, I have no idea if the amounts used in the above recipe will help with these ailments. So I use the bath salts recipe for relaxation.
Kosher salt is inexpensive and also a great ingredient in the bath. It dissolves easily and is often used as a water softener.
Baking soda is used to soothe skin and reduce any irritation you might have. I love a product that can also be used to make a variety of baked goods. What? I have a sweet tooth.

Supplies
Making homemade bath salts is super simple.
- 1 cup Epsom Salt
- 1 cup Kosher Salt
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 40 drops essential oils (I used peppermint and lime so I could mimic the same smells from a mojito)
- Glass bottles to store the finished bath salts in (these bottles are similar to the ones I used)
Essential oils are life. I use them just about every day, especially in this DIY diffuser for my desk and in my favorite shower diffuser. I use DoTerra oils because I am a seller (just to my mom and myself) but I also love NOW Foods oils!
I would make sure to use a high-quality oil especially because you’ll be literally stewing in it.
How to Make DIY Bath Salts
In a medium bowl (I prefer to use my Pyrex measuring cup! I use it ALL the time!), add Epsom salt, kosher salt and baking soda. You don’t want to use a plastic bowl.
Essential oils leach into plastic and if you plan on using that container again for food, it will be contaminated.
Mix with fork or whisk. You really just want to try to break up the big clumps and a fork is a great way to do that.
Add 20 drops of essential oils. I used lime and peppermint. I used 10 drops of peppermint and 30 drops of lime.
The scent was very light in the bath and I would add more oils next time I make this. It smells strong when making this big batch but when you use less in the bathtub the scent is more subtle.
Mix again.
Use a funnel to pour into small glass bottles. These cute bottles are a great way to package up these DIY bath salts. You can leave these on the counter right next to the bath.
Or you can tie a bow on it with a gift tag and use these for teacher gifts or give to girlfriends who you want to encourage to relax.
DIY bath salts are a great way to work a little self-care into your normal evening routine. And these mojito-scented salts are a fun way to work in some cocktail vibes too.
How to use it in the bath
Add several TBSPs to your bathwater and swirl.
I’m of the camp that more is more. I started with a few tablespoons and ended up using at least 1 cup. Even with fighting kids, I enjoyed my bath and felt like my skin was soft and smooth afterward.
I still wanted to drink a mojito though.
Tips
Take care when using Peppermint essential oils in bath products. Your lady parts contain sensitive skin that might be irritated by the tingle peppermint oil can sometimes cause.
I tried out this recipe and didn’t have any issues. Just something to keep in mind!
