A refreshing and unique tequila cocktail recipe
A cactus water cocktail is a must-try! If you’re sick of sweet cocktails that just aren’t all that refreshing, this recipe is for you!
Can you drink cactus water?? Yes! I like it way more than coconut water and this version with prickly pear is so thirst-quenching.
When I was in Mexico, a few summers ago, I got to taste cactus fruit (prickly pear). It has a bright flavor that I really enjoyed, it reminds me of kiwi, so I knew it would add a light, fruity touch to this drink.

While it’s great for hydration in general, it’s also super delicious when used to create a unique tequila cocktail and this one is perfect to sip on a hot day.
A good cocktail doesn’t need to be difficult. In fact, they should be as easy as possible and this one totally is. With just a few ingredients, including cucumber, this drink recipe comes together fast and is fun to serve to friends.
Ingredients
I like to use a blanco or silver tequila but you can also use reposado if you prefer.
Directions
In a cocktail glass muddle 3 slices of cucumber.
Add 4 ounces of Caliwater.
Add 2 ounces of tequila.
Add the lime juice. I used the juice from half a lime so I didn’t have to measure. But feel free to add as much or as little as you’d like.
Then taste the cactus water cocktail and adjust.
If you need to add a little sweetness, feel free to add a little simple syrup.
Add ice. Give it a quick stir and sip away.
*If you prefer, you can make this in a cocktail shaker and then strain it over fresh ice in a short cocktail glass.
How to make it your own
Add a little club soda if you want to give it some fizz.
Consider muddling other types of fresh fruit or herbs along with the cucumber to add even more flavor.
Cactus water doesn’t only pair with tequila. Try it with vodka or gin if you prefer.
This unique tequila cocktail with cactus water is refreshing and one you need to try this summer.
The cactus water is fairly easy to find at local grocery stores and places like Bev Mo. It comes in several flavors (like watermelon) so you can change it up and try out what sounds good to you.
The cactus water is super interesting. There are waves of flavors you experience when you drink it. At first, it doesn’t have much of a taste. I noticed right off the bat that it didn’t jump out at you as coconut water does.
Then there is a touch of sweetness that seems to come from the prickly pear (a superfruit, yo). After you swallow, you pick up a little more of the fruit flavor (It’s hard to compare it to another fruit. It kind of tastes like fruit punch.). Then you get a slight floral note. It’s like a roller coaster for your mouth.
Cactus juice is really just cactus water that has flavorings added. I would stick to cactus water if you can find it.
Thank you to Caliwater who provided the cactus water and cocktail recipe.

I’ve had cactus water before but not packaged like that. I wonder if it would taste any different? I definitely have to try this now.
I’ve never gotten to try water straight from a cactus before. This one has prickly pear added so not sure if you’d really be able to tell. Give it a shot and let me know!
I had NO idea you could buy cactus water like this. I might have to try this out for myself!
It’s a totally different flavor than coconut water (which I don’t love) and is super hydrating!
